| Home | TRAIN WORLD ELECTRIC LOCOMOTIVE An electric locomotive is the cleanest and most efficent fromof railway power. High voltage electricity is usually collected from overhead wires through a pantograph fitted on the roof. The electricity is passed through a transformer throught the individual traction motors mounted on boggies which electric trains can run for a long time at very high speeds. PANTOGRAPH A pantograph is part of an electric locomotive that collects electricity by overhead eleectric wires. The pantograph lies flat when not used which is half of the time. The pantograph can pick up electricity one way. There is one pantograph at the end of each electric car. THIRD RAIL COLLECTION Some electric trains collect their power from a non-running third railroad along the track. Electricity is collected by metal collider shoes sliding along the rail.
